Donating to Local charity shops

This is a personal bee in my bonnet.

WHY WHY WHY do people leave their donations outside when the shop is closed? I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve walked past Charity shops and seen bags of donations left outside that have been rummaged through overnight.

What’s left after the ‘bin-divers’ have gone through the bags cannot be sold for reasons of hygene a staff member told me these items just have to go straight to a rag yard or dump because a dog or fox may have pee’d on the bags etc..

If you want your unwanted items to benefit the charity PLEASE CHECK THE OPENING TIMES (all shops seem to open on both Saturday and Sunday for those who cannot get in during weekday shop hours) and take your things in then.

Also if possible gift aid because that benefits the charity too.

I don’t know if this will reach those who do just leave their stuff outside in the street but I hope it does.

Otherwise your ‘donation’ will either be thrown away or end up on someone’s car boot stall or Vinted/Depop/Ebay ..

Apologies for block capitals but this is something I feel strongly about especially if smaller charities -St Christophers Hospice or Alex TLC as examples - lose out.

Unfortunately, for some people, the primary thing is to get the stuff out of their house, so they’re on that mission regardless of what they know can happen to it when they plonk it out on the street.

I’m lucky that I’ve got a car so I can get my stuff to St Christophers Hospice as they’re a local and very good cause (and it’s nice to get letters from them every so often to tell me the surprisingly high amounts that they managed to raise from our stuff).
