E-bike parking Perry Vale

The lazy people play their part. Geofencing is great, but it’s only required because some people just can’t be bothered to do things properly. The lack of geofencing didn’t stop any of those bikes being parked properly. Lazy people did.

Lines in the parking bays will mean nothing to some people. The bay is marked yet there are bikes all over the place. Anyone with a ounce of sense realises that the bay isn’t meant to have bikes parked sideways in them.

When I went past there today (14.00), I counted 47 bikes not in the marked area. They were parked virtually all the way to the tunnel. There were two bikes outside Platform 2 entrance. The parking area is just so inadequate.

It would be interesting to know how many are there by this evening. I won’t be home so can’t see myself. But the argument will be made that if the demand is there…

Obviously the issue that needs addressing is where they all go, and who keeps them in check.

Is there an argument for taking over some of the front car park for e-bikes?

Yes, I know it was a bit of a Waterloo before for the FHS, but there is definitely demand, and it would be better if they were parked there than on the pavement on the other side. The car park would then be better at catering for all ages and all forms of transport.

I agree with everybody that many e-bike users seem to be oblivious to the rules and common courtesy, and we need the big companies to apply a monetary stick to reduce bad behaviour.

There would definitely be a case for that. I’m sure plenty of people arrive or leave the station from that side.

However that said, as a cyclist, unless coming from Dartmouth Rd or London Road, using that entrance using a bike is a nightmare. I can’t stand riding around Waldram to get there lol.

I don’t cycle so have never used an e-bike. How are the riders supposed to get the bikes on and off the pavement? I think the kerb there is quite high - I don’t imagine riders can mount the pavement while on the bike so are they supposed to dismount and push the bike onto the pavement and into the parking bay? Would a dropped kerb help?

A dropped kerb would definitely help, especially with reducing the number of bikes riding along the pavement.

This is just another example of disjointed planning.

Lewisham council ought to have made provision for access if they are going to put the storage on the pavement. As it is the only ramp is at the entrance to the car park some 45 metres away. They bomb down the pavement often at full speed. It is a wonder that they don’t hit pedestrians on the way.

I saw people manhandling Lime bikes through the tunnel the other day. They don’t seem to know they can ride round under the bridge.

I wonder how many e bikes Lewisham has seized?

Westminster have been cracking down like crazy… Lewisham…

I am told by the author of the Guardian article that

"Lewisham was one of the councils that said it did not seize any bikes or issue any fines. "

With the Greens running the council, this doesn’t come as a shock.

Hardly surprised. Surely if promoting the use of them, the council should also be keen to enforce the rules too.

I will never understand the “but cars” attitude so many adopt. Bikes are parked badly, ridden poorly and rules are broken… “yeah but cars…” and that’s the end of it.

No! If active travel is to be the future, it needs to be gotten under control now. Rant over lol

To be fair, cycling under that bridge along the south circular is scary for all but the most confident riders. The solution is a segregated cycle lane down both sides of the south circular but doubt that will happen any time soon.

Yeah absolutely can’t ever see that happening, but would be a game changer. Getting across the tracks on a bike is a nightmare. Dacres and Silverdale for me :joy:
