Ellie Reeves is Attorney General in New Govt

MP for Forest Hill, Ellie Reeves, has been appointed Attorney General by Andy Burnham - Britain’s new PM.

Congratulations to Ellie Reeves. I hope she’ll still have an occasional moment for Forest Hill and the rest of her constituency!

I see Ellie will also attend Cabinet. Very much at the heart of the new Government.

Yes, I’d echo that in the hope that she’s a better Attorney General than her sister was a Chancellor; in the same way that I also hope that the charismatic Andy Burnham will do a much better job for the country than Kier Starmer did. :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

Their father Graham Reeves is a local historian who has just updated one of his books.

His book on Crystal Palace is good if you are starting to research the Palace and need a place to start just the right amount of information, as there are hundreds of books to choose from.

How politics can change in an instant. Ellie will attent Cabinet but her sister is now a backbencher.

This is a double-edged sword, of course. It is great to have a local MP have a voice in Cabinet, and for us to be able to engage with someone at the highest levels.

On the other hand, she will be even more bound to Government policy than any other Labour MP and highly unlikely ever to diverge from the government position, so lobbying her for changes to a policy will be even harder than it is with a backbench MP who can at least stand up and be a ‘rebel’ for a good cause.

It won’t make the slightest difference. Name three things Ellie Reeves MP has done for Forest Hill in the 10 years she has been MP.

I’ve found her to be a wonderful local MP.

honestly, when myself or my neighbours have raised a concern with her she gets on the case, keeps us updated and having spoken to her on more than one occasion get the impression she actually cares.

Yes that is exactly how I have found Ellie. I am absolutely certain that there are many many local people who have benefitted from the local casework of her and her team. Even though she doesn’t need to, with one of the safest seats in the country, and even though she has had a succession of positions in her party and in government she has always been accessible, kept up her surgeries, replies to letters and also goes out door knocking all over the constituency.
