I think they picnicked on the hill. Liz I’s courtiers complained about having to lug all the provisions up the hill. Surely apocryphal, but further legend says they got so drunk that her majesty knighted the tree, hence the Honor Oak.

I’ve not posted for a while about this, but I was admiring this lovely Acer on Devonshire Road this morning and I thought I would share it. It is a small tree, admittedly, but it is rather dramatic with its deep red leaves.
I have to admit, it looked a bit better a few years ago as it was a nicer shape. It has grown a lot recently and is a bit full, and these trees can get a lot of character with a bit of judicious pruning.
However, it is very pretty, so I felt it was worth sharing

Anyone else walked up Sunderland Road recently and spotted the … rabbit (or is it a cat?)

I’m not sure what it is… but they do seem to try to shape it a bit more each season.

That wonderful oak at the corner of Honor Oak Road and Forest Hill Road has a planning application pending for crown reduction. Lewisham planning - oak canopy reduction.
If you compare our two photos you can see that there is die back in the canopy. I suppose the hope is that this might be a way to stop or delay further problems.
