It takes such a long time to naturally populate the river with fish, and I thought it was looking as good as I’d ever seen it in recent years - regular sightings of heron, kingfisher, little egret and other birds seemed to indicate things were looking quite good for an enclosed and suburban river.
Such a shame that the river has lost such a lot of wildlife. I hope we eventually find out how this happened. The environment agency say they are investigating in this statement but they are notoriously under resourced and I wonder if we will ever hear what happened.
How sad indeed. I had spotted the heron fishing there too showing it was hopefully quite healthy. I do hope the water company is adequately punished for this
