Mercedes Benz test vehicle spotted parked up on Elliot Bank today. Took me a minute to spot it was autonomous, it’s all so subtle ![]()
For context it was with driver, so not rolling around our streets on its own.

Wow! Well spotted! I’ve seen one of the Waymo cars driving around London (also with driver) but I had not seen that they were testing vans as well.
Eliot Bank seems to be an unusual place for this? I assume this is parked for the driver rather than this being a test route?
Yup it was parked up, engine running. I assume just out of the way, or mapping some of the lesser trodden roads.
A friend saw one on the M4 today too.
Not seen a Waymo yet.
Thanks for bringing this up Snazy, our first mention of any autonomous/robo-vehicle on Rocks. Once upon a time it all seemed so far off in the future, but it’s getting closer month by month. (whatever ‘it’ is!!!)
I would like to think that sometime soon (all in good time) the transport committee might look at whether they need to communicate to us their initial thoughts on this topic, if indeed there are any?
I worry the reason we feel so ambushed by modern technology is that we often wait too long because “it hasn’t happened yet”.
Could we reduce the stress just a little by talking about it sooner so we don’t feel blindsided when these changes are introduced.
