Awful Behavior by Canvassers for Green Party

I’m really wound up by this and just wanted to post it here really just to vent my anger.

Yesterday late morning I was sat in my living room window and 3 youngish people walked into my line of vision carrying bright green posters, they paused in the street outside my house looked up and pointed to my “vote Labour’ poster..one of them seeing me sat in the window pointed to my poster and held their poster aloft I gave a thumbs down at which point one of the group made a cut-throat gesture and they all laughed and walked off…

It may sound a bit petty posting this here but I really found their behaviour juvinile and actually a bit upsetting..Sadly I did’nt capture them on my ring doorbell because they were out in the street or I’d post an image on here and send footage to the local Green party candidate to complain.

If they wanted to win my vote rather than making a cut throat gesture and sniggering at my choice of party ring my doorbell, sell me your policies don’t behave like a kid (or a bratty kid).

You may not agree with my choice of vote but be kind and be respectful

Rant Over!

I’m sorry to hear that but i wouldn’t take it too personally- I’m sure they don’t mean anything other than Labour’s time in control of Lewisham is likely to come to an abupt end. Difficult to signal this as a hand gesture and i agree that a knock on the door to discuss it would be more appropriate.

Greens are expected to take around half the seats on Lewisham council and could gain a majority.

I am also sorry to hear that happened. I would say shocked. And saddened.

We all make a difference every day in the way we live our lives.

Wishing everyone out there peace and love.

As one of the Green party candidates for Forest Hill, I’m very sorry to hear about this incident. Obviously, this falls well below the standards we expect from our activists and campaigners. I can assure you that we will be reaching out to all of our local volunteers to remind them of the importance of professionalism and civility when campaigning for the party.

Again, my apologies; if you want to discuss in more detail, please do feel free to drop us an email at foresthill@lewisham.greenparty.org.uk.

Thanks for this @Fergus_NB - it is great to have local candidates joining in and listening to what is happening in the wider community, and responding to things where helpful.

In the run-up to elections, nerves can get a bit frayed, but hopefully we can have positive and productive exchanges here like this.

Thank you Fergus I will be in contact with you.

Oh dear, as someone who rents private flats to people, that probably numbers the days I have left after trying to do a reasonable job within the local community for forty years.

Maybe I’m too old, or too thick, to be able to appreciate that it’s what progress looks like?

I never suggested it was progress, but i would welcome a council more reflective of diverse political opinions than 53 out 53 councillors being from a single party.

Progress would be a proportional voting system with three councillors in each ward better representing differing political views in a local area rathar than the inevitable winner takes all apporach we have today.

As for my views on the policies of each party, i think i better keep quiet. I don’t think this new forum is ready for that type of political discussion.

No Michael, my comment wasn’t directed at you in any way.

It was purely my realisation that The Green Party are getting lots of support for their proposed policies, one of which is to end the private landlord and tenant thing.

As I said, I didn’t read anything into what you wrote as being supportive of that or that other ideas of theirs are ‘progress’, but I’d respect your opinion nevertheless.

Personally, knowing how difficult things already are for tenants and for local authorities, in their impossible task of dealing with the homeless in so many areas of the UK, I can see that the L&T thing will only make things worse… Very much worse!
