Garden bin payment renewal

It’s that time of year to pay the piper for the hit and miss service that is garden bins.

Once again whilst renewing the DD for the payment it is replying saying there is an error in the details.

Does anyone else go through this rigmarole every year?

Yes, we also pay the garden tax.

Do you ever have any problems actually paying? We have the same thing every year.

We’ve not had a reminder this year, so I’m expecting a threatening email any minute, telling me that my payment is overdue and service will be suspended.

Haha that is definitely an option. We have had that before too.

We previously changed our bank details with the. They then repeatedly failed to take the payment with the new details and we got that very same email.

Thank-you for the reminder! I’ve tried to log in to renew, but keep getting rejection messages, will persevere. My neighbours and I do have a tiny little bit of a snark every year about how we have to pay for Lewisham to take our garden waste away but they make it quite difficult - I hope this year is different, we had an abandoned garden bin living on our street for months before it finally got taken away.

Yup the same as us then, about 15 “something is wrong” emails later and still no confirmation.

I have had that in the past too.

So after getting the error and trying over and over on various days, we now have a direct debit set up to make the payment…

I fact we now have SEVENTEEN direct debits set up… :roll_eyes:

Hopefully they won’t take 17 payments.

We shall see, we know that if we cancel one it will be the one they were going to use.

Watch this space haha. Will try and contact them to see what they can do, but not holding out much hope they can sort it from their end.

This is fertile ground for a modern fairy tale. The council refuse to provide a garden bin service (through a clerical error). So the villagers are unable to cut down the vegetation fast enough, and in time the forest gradually returns.

@Snazy I’ve had no reminder to pay for mine. Did you do this proactively, or did you get a communication about it?

Nope, no reminder. Lewisham are rubbish (pun intended) at these things. I don’t ever recall getting one over the years.

Just the “you haven’t paid us, we’re taking it back” email.

I found my old renewal email reminder, which was sent 22/5/25 so I assume they may come later - but since it is available from 1st April, that seems like quite a delay.

In any case, I managed to renew mine (also switching to DD) without any hassle (so far)

I wouldn’t bet on it. So far we have had 3 DD payments taken this year, even though they are not meant to start until May. They are aware of a problem but are being glacially slow about fixing it.
