Just seen that Goldsmiths have told Lewisham council that they are cancelling the planned expansion into the old Town Hall in Catford.
I guess it should be no surprise since they are in a constant battle over money, and facing a long-term strike from lecturers, but it is a bit of a shame for the area as having a vibrant Catford would be a great thing for residents of SE23, and might also have had knock on benefits for us with more students and businesses moving into the area.
A huge shame - and very disappointing, given that the Council had been working in good faith to facilitate their expansion plans and was actively making preparations for the move right up until this morning. As @rob said, seems to be a direct result of their current financial precarity.
I know the Mayor and his Cabinet are very much committed to pushing forward with our wider regeneration plans for Catford; we’ll be exploring alternative options for what to do with the Old Town Hall.
