Goodbye Grove Tavern

Again, not strictly SE23, but something that many here will have a view on, and will see regularly.

It seems that the end is nigh for the Grove Tavern / Harvester on the corner of the South Circular and Lordship Lane. While it has not been used since I moved here over 20 years ago, it will be a shame for it to disappear, albeit it has really become a bit of an eyesore.

Does anyone know what the proposals are for replacing this building on this busy corner? I do hope they are keeping the gardens and the skate park open?

Yes it was the subject of a planning application and consultation earlier this year. They plan a short term skate park and community garden for 3 yrs while they put forward new plans for ‘mixed development’. Former Grove Tavern Site Proposals

It’s the ideal spot for starting a section of the A205 Tunnel.

The Grove Tavern is very close to me (that’s how close I am to SE23) and sadly I think it’s the right thing to do.

It hasn’t been viable as a pub site for a while and the fact the skate park stays for another three years which is well used by FH skaters is a bonus.

I’d like to see retail on that site, but I think it’ll be another housing development with minimal social housing requirements.

Be good if a permanent skatepark can be incorporated at the site (designed by the users not a council/developer designed one that never gets done properly)
