just a bit of a moan here..We’ve had one of the small green’lewisham’ recyling tubs for ages and its now seen better days..it fills up way too quickly meaning we have to rely on the kindness of our neighbours to let us put the excess in their large wheelie green bins.and is really falling apart.
deciding enough is enough we went on the Lewisham website to request a new larger wheeled recycling bin…the result.
A message…no bins available none in stock or something..no option to go on a waitlist to reqest updates,no timeframe….
Nothing..is it a month before more bins become available? a month? a year?
As you can tell I’m really frustrated….We recycle all packaging that can be put in recycling, newspapers, etc …but as brands become more ethical there is more ‘stuff’ than can be recycled so- what are we supposed to do?? We’ve had our smaller tub years and years..in order for things to be collected they obviously need to be in Lewisham bins or tubs but without any idea when we can get a larger bin I feel a bit stuck..
The council has spent lots of money in the large food recycling street bins that I have’nt seen being used that much (or stuffed with the ‘wrong’ rubbish..But what about domestic recycling???
Sorry for the long ramble I’m just really peed off about it..and we are a ‘Green’ borough?
We have temporarily paused all new recycling bin orders due to high demand while we await new stock.
We’re aware that some residents who have already placed an order have been waiting more than 20 days, and we’re sorry for the delay. We know this is frustrating and we’re working hard to get bins out to you and to restock with our supplier as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this.
If you want to know why the recycling service has run out of recycling bins, I expect you’d need to ask one of the councillors to investigate. Has the supplier gone bust? Has the blockade in the Straits of Hormuz prevented the necessary chemicals getting to the manufacturer? Did Lewisham neglect to order them?
If you want the answer you might need to be very persistent.
Unfortunately, I don’t think that chasing Lewisham Council will help as it appears to be a more widespread issue caused by supply problems. I’ve seen this mentioned in a few stories, but here’s one from Greenwich with the same issue, and mentions Lewisham
