Hi all! It would be great to create an ongoing forum where we can all post where and when live music of all genres is happening in the area of SE23. Please share below ![]()
Informal accoustic bluegrass evening in the Foresters Arms, Perry Vale, first Monday of every month.
Great idea! I know that the pubs often have regular evenings, but it would be particularly useful to hear about special events or less frequent ones. I see all sorts of events happening at Canvas & Cream for example, but never got the information on time or organised enough to attend. I’ll post here if I find any.
Hard to think of any dedicated live music venues in SE23 itself. On the upside, there are some really good venues not too far away, like the Ivy House in Nunhead What's On — The Ivy House and the Fox & Firkin in Lewisham https://foxfirkin.com/events/. And, of course, club nights at the iconic Rivoli Ballroom in Crofton Park https://www.rivoliballroom.com/upcoming-events.
The Sister Midnight collective are creating a live space in Catford - Venue ~ Sister Midnight - opening night is still some time away (but getting ever closer).
Further afield, there are established venues like the Amersham Arms, the New Cross Inn, or the Railway at Tulse Hill. East Dulwich Tavern has a jazz night on the first Wednesday of every month**.** For more experimental / leftfield sounds, the excellent Iklectik (formerly in Waterloo) has just re-opened in Peckham Levels IKLECTIK tickets and events - London, United Kingdom
There’s loads of stuff going on at the moment - here’s the ones I tend to look out for; I’d love to hear about any other nights folks are running.
There’s a great open mic at the Dartmouth Arms (aka Meatliquor) on the first Monday of every month. (That’s tonight, in case anybody’s reading this right after I post it and wants to come along!)
There’s a new open mic night at the Stuffed Walrus (formerly the Prince of Wales) starting on Friday March 13th: https://thestuffedwalruspub.com/events/
The Foresters Arms (formerly the All Inn One) has live music every Saturday at the moment, showcasing local bands & musicians. (Plug: I’ll be there on March 14th doing an acoustic set, so come along for that)
There’s posters up in the Bird in Hand on Dartmouth Road advertising a new jazz & jam session on the last Sunday of every month, but I haven’t made it along to check that one yet.
Not strictly SE23 but there are regular music nights at the Ignition Brewery taproom over in Sydenham - their open mic is the first Thursday of every month, there’s a regular jazz night, there’s a monthly “Songs in Sydenham” showcase for local songwriters: https://www.ignition.beer/the-taproom. Also in Sydenham is Station Ten, right outside Sydenham station, which has regular music nights and jam sessions.
Anybody know of any more, post ‘em here - would love to know about any that I’ve missed.
Thanks!
Not too far away is the Bromley Blues Club, the venue is the Bromley Little Theatre close to Bromley North station, one Sunday per month. All seated small venue. Some very good performers booked. Check out Martin Harley, who is booked to play here again this year - quite excellent.
This weekend at the Blythe Hill Tavern https://www.instagram.com/p/DVqmnDPilJJ/?igsh=eTFmcWl4bmxwNjFw
There’s a new open mic night every other Thursday at The Signal - the next session is on the 19th March.
Morning
ICYMI, I will be running a pop-up record store, Table Turners, at Better Things from 31 March - 5 April. I cannot post a link here, but if you visit 122 Music Management online, you will find information there.
Across (Good) Friday 3 and Saturday 4 April, we will be hosting 10 live (acoustic) sets. Entry is free. Artists include one from Canada, and a host of London based acts.
We’d love to see you, and anyone else who fancies it, down there.
Mark
Ha - I could re-live old memories?
I don’t know if today’s FHers would stand me though.
Me and a bunch of mates started a rock covers band called FUs and played regularly in there and The Swiss Cottage pub in Stansted Road around 1978/9.
Met a girl there who liked my Smoke on the Water and we’ve been together ever since.
Happy Days throughout!
Go for it!
Hope that you can make it down at some point.
All the best
Mark
That’s very kind of you Mark - I might ask the organisers if I can.
If anyone PLAYS live music and not just a fan, then there is a chance to play on Havelock Walk this summer
Thanks for sharing, @rob Indeed, if any local musicians are keen to do some busking at Havelock Walk Open Studios the weekends of May 9/10 or 16/17, let me know!
