Since this has already come up, I thought I would start a topic for questions around moderation.
At the moment, there are no additional moderators, just the @Admin - but the hope is that there will be a wider team in future.
However, the platform (Discourse) has some built-in tools that will hopefully make it difficult for bots and spammers to sign up, but this is never fully reliable. Instead, you will see a Flag (
) icon below posts (you may need to click the … menu option). If you see something that is either spam, or breaks the rules, then any member can flag it so that the moderating “team” is alerted and can review it. A single flag will not usually hide or delete the posts (so don’t expect this to happen immediately), but if any posts gets enough flags from different users, it will be temporarily hidden so it can be reviewed. That way it is a collective responsibility to keep the community protected.
As you become a more regular user of the site, you will gain Trust Levels. This is one of the built-in features of the site, and it means that as a regular contributor, you might gain additional access, features and abilities. One of these will be for your flags to carry more ‘weight’ with regard to automatic reviews. I’ll talk more about Trust Levels elsewhere.
Before we can get into more detail about what and how we moderate, it will be more important to discuss what we do, and do not want to see in this forum. This is something to be discussed and clearer guidelines will make it easier to do this work.
Do let me know your thoughts and any further questions
