Public Discussion: Future of the Local Post Office in Forest Hill

As many residents may already be aware, the current Post Office serving the Forest Hill area is due to close soon. This has raised concerns within the community about maintaining access to essential postal and banking services for local residents.

Following discussions with customers and members of the public, there appears to be strong support for relocating the Post Office to the new One Stop store in Forest Hill. Many local people believe that One Stop would be the most suitable location due to its convenient position, accessibility, extended opening hours, and modern facilities.

The store has already established itself as a trusted part of the local community, with a team of professional, friendly, and respectful staff who consistently provide excellent customer service. Residents have commented that the welcoming environment and high service standards make the store well placed to successfully operate a Post Office branch.

Bringing the Post Office into One Stop would not only ensure that vital services remain available within the community, but would also provide a convenient one-stop destination where customers can access postal services, banking facilities, and everyday shopping needs under one roof.

I would like to encourage an open public discussion on this matter and gather the views of local residents. If the community supports the proposal, I believe there is a strong case for One Stop Forest Hill to become the new home of the local Post Office and continue serving the area for many years to come.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the PO on here on this thread. TG Jones closures - the status of our Post Office

I don’t think anyone would object to your idea- and I see on that thread others mentioned it too. But has anyone actually talked to One Stop management about it - or are you perhaps connected to One Stop yourself?

I popped in there when the PO published a call for expressions of interest to open a branch a few months ago, to point it out to them, and the manager was enthusiastic about the idea. I think they submitted an application.

On the face of it, the site looks unsuitable: where would vans park when delivering and picking up? It’s not only Royal Mail these days, there are several couriers that deal with post offices.

There would need to be a lot of space in the store for parcels incoming and outgoing; counter space; safes for cash and stamps etc.

But where there’s a will …

As long as there’s one in Forest Hill, I don’t mind where.

Would the old Boots be a more suitable place though? It would be nice to see that eyesore disappear.

I think the Old Boots space would be ideal, large enough to have a bureaux de change and banking as well as parcel/mail facilities too. Post offices are about the only places to get cash if you don’t want to use a cashpoint these days.
