Sydenham Garden matched funding

Some years ago I was the first Director of Sydenham Garden, an excellent and enduring gem of a local charity. Actually located in Forest Hill.

The charity has a short term fundraiser where every pound you donate is matched by three pounds from a partner company. Up to a certain limit. So your £10 donation becomes £40 to the charity.

This note is to spread the word and help them reach the target.

‘Sydenham Garden provides therapeutic gardening and arts and crafts groups for people with mental health difficulties and dementia - in the beautiful setting of a nature reserve and community food growing site. It is a source of peace and joy, a real sanctuary when people are going through tough times.’

For anyone wondering, the charity was called Sydenham Garden not because of its own location but because of its origination at the GP surgery at Bell Green Sydenham.

In the early days, it took on the management of a somewhat neglected nature reserve on behalf of Lewisham. We built a large greenhouse on the site, and eventually found funding for the building now on site, where the services the charity now runs are based from.
