Topical question ... where is the best ice cream in the area?

Can’t imagine why I’m thinking about it now (could it be that it is 31 degrees, and next week is expected to get up to 35!!!??), but I was imagining enjoying a lovely ice cream.

I was wondering if anyone knows of the best location to get something decent (i.e. not a pre-packaged one from the supermarket) here in the area?

There was an ice-cream shop on Brockley Rise for a very short time some years ago, but the only one I can think of is up in East Dulwich. Is this something Forest Hill and Honor Oak are missing?

I gave up on ice cream shops after the Criterion closed.

It has been Le Querce who do amazing home made gelati. However, I think they close this month. :cry:

Definitely Marcelo’s - doing Saturdays and Sundays at Haynes Lane Courtyard in Crystal Palace now. Super interesting small batch flavours: https://www.instagram.com/marcelosicecream/p/DZr0jLVjeT1/?hl=en

There used to be a great place called Sugar Mountain run by @Pauline on Dartmouth Road that sold ice cream. Sadly no longer there.

@Pauline

It’s nice to see that our little legend isn’t forgotten.

She loved Forest Hill SO much and she was always looking at ways of promoting the town - a real pocket rocket!

Mind you, Anna, who’s had Beetroot & Beans in that shop since Pauline left in 2019 is constantly telling me how much she also loves the FH community.

The Pantry sell very nice ice-cream sandwiches with some nice flavour options - treated myself to one yesterday!

Crisp sandwiches and sugar sandwiches used to be a thing, but I’ve never heard of an ice cream sandwich.

So is this a sandwich as in ice cream between 2 slices of bread?

100% accurate :joy::joy: :bread: :soft_ice_cream: :bread:

That’s done it!

You know my wife’s gonna be thinking I’ve got dementia when she sees me getting the multi-seed out and spreading Carte d’Or on it :upside_down_face:

Ended up being too busy to pop out for one this weekend in the end, but sounds like there will be extra need for it this week. Interesting to know about Pantry and Journey Cafe doing something locally, which is nice. I will try to check them out (if I dare venture out of the house long enough)

Just seen that Galao on London Road is selling ice cream. Will have to taste test it

What a beautiful mobile stall!

I wonder if it’s theirs or if they’re doing some sort of collaboration?

Good luck to them!

Slight correction: Le Querce last day of trading is 31st July.

We had 2 ice cream places a few doors apart with Pauline’s Sugar Mountain and the Sardinian deli Il Mirto with a Dartmouth Road Ice cream war breaking out as one had made a disparaging comment about the pedigree of the other’s product. I do remember getting the kids to hide Il Mirto’s ice cream going past Pauline’s as we did like her sweets and didn’t want to be caught.

I think Pauline would have been ok with that. She doesn’t even eat sweets! :laughing:
