New bakery / pastry shop on the way?

I was walking along Dartmouth Road today and noticed that there was work going in the shop that was Aga’s Little Deli.

It was such a shame to see this close, but it looks like something else is coming very soon.

According to a sign on the door, referring to Krust Ltd., I gather that this is a business that is registered for :

  • 10710 - Manufacture of bread; manufacture of fresh pastry goods and cakes

  • 56102 - Unlicensed restaurants and cafes

I very much look forward to following along with this new opening, and very pleased to see a new business arriving in Forest Hill.

Does anyone know any more about this opening?

I think a bakery would be a great asset to Dartmouth Road.

Does anyone remember the one we used to have at No.41?

This photo catches a little bit of its window display.

Bakery and green grocer are the most obvious gaps in the Forest Hill high street - would be great.

I know it’s only small, but Beetroot & Beans offers a range of fruit & veg and they help customers with non-regular stock items from their daily suppliers.

I used to adore Aga’s deli, I was utterly gutted when she closed because I loved her soups and salads, incredible value and always tasty..

That said I’m looking forward to once again having her Sour Cucumber or Borsht soup from her new venture..

Re: the Buisness taking over her old shop we really need a good deli as well as a bakery, I’d love to see somewhere that offers good healthy takeaway salads

Things seem to be moving apace … it is now looking fresh with the new paint

And the sign says it is opening in May and there’s an Instagram link, but no content (yet)

I have had a brief exchange with the owners via Instagram, and so don’t want to give too much away and let them do their reveal, but it all sounds very exciting. Looks like opening should be mid May, so not long now to find out more.

Hopefully it’ll be something like Chatsworth Bakehouse in Anerley, where people queue for an hour in all weathers. :crossed_fingers:

I’ve heard back just to say that the opening is pushed back a little from the original plan, possibly to the last week of May, but still hoping to see it open very soon.

I can’t remember the name of that bakers shop but it was owned/run by Ted ? and his son Eamonn; the bread and cakes were produced in the bakery at the back of the shop, Eamonn lived in the flat above and Ted had moved out to a big house at Grove Park, so it was clearly profitable.

They were both Saturday lunchtime regulars in the now defunct Forest Hill Hotel and would usually turn up with a tray of rolls for fellow regulars.

PS. I also noticed that one of the other empty shops on Dartmouth looks like it will be opening as a stationers.

That may well come in handy if TG Jones either goes bust or closes the FH store.

Whereabouts is this please?

It’s one of mine - 59 Dartmouth Road.

Ah that’s great John! That looks like an American website though?

Hi Jon

I just clicked on the link and it’s bringing the right one up, but try this - About Us – The Stationer

I never knew the owners, but have a look at this from the 30s
